The Power of Knowing Your 'Why' as a Group Practice Owner

As group practice owners, one of the most important things we can do is establish a strong sense of purpose—a clear 'why' that drives us. Knowing why you started your practice provides grounding during challenging times, fuels growth, and fosters resilience as a leader. In my journey as a practice owner, two core reasons keep me motivated and centered.

The First 'Why': Family and Presence

For me, one of the main reasons I pursued group practice ownership was my daughter. She means the world to me, and having a successful group practice allows me to be more present in her life. This flexibility and balance are invaluable, enabling me to be there for her in ways that may not have been possible otherwise. As practice owners, many of us value family and understand the importance of being able to create that balance through our work.

The Second 'Why': Community Impact and Shared Vision

The other driving force behind my practice is the desire to be part of something bigger than myself—to make a meaningful impact on our community. As a solo practitioner, there’s only so much one can do. But with a team, that impact multiplies. The talented, compassionate, and dedicated individuals I work with inspire me every day. Together, we’ve created a supportive, values-driven culture where team members care for each other and collectively work toward our mission. This collaboration enables us to reach more people and have a broader, more lasting impact.

Returning to Your 'Why' During Challenging Times

The journey of practice ownership is not without its challenges, especially in today’s landscape. During tough times, grounding myself in these two fundamental 'whys'—my family and our community impact—helps me stay resilient. Having a clear purpose provides the motivation to navigate obstacles, refuel growth, and stay focused on what truly matters.

Understanding your 'why' as a group practice owner is essential. It’s not only the foundation of your practice but also a source of strength and inspiration when times get tough. Take a moment to reflect on your own reasons for starting and leading a group practice. What keeps you moving forward? Embracing these motivations can be a powerful tool for growth, resilience, and continued impact.
